Characters 4–8: model, body and engine
On 2011+ Dodge VINs, characters 5–7 carry the line, series and body, for example DXBG patterns on Charger, and the 8th character is the engine: J for the 6.4L SRT, T for the 5.7L HEMI, G for the 3.6L Pentastar.

How do I know a VIN is a Dodge?
The first three characters (the WMI) identify the maker. Dodge WMIs are listed in the table on this page, as registered with NHTSA under 49 CFR Part 565.
Does a Dodge VIN show the options?

What is the check digit?
The 9th character. It is calculated from the other 16, so a typo or altered VIN fails the check.
