Questions people ask

Why does my motorhome have two VINs?

The chassis maker (Ford, Freightliner, Mercedes-Benz, Ram) assigns the 17-character chassis VIN. The coach builder adds a data plate for the living area. The title uses the chassis VIN.

Does NHTSA decode travel trailer VINs?

Yes, for trailers built since 1981 with a 17-character VIN. Trailer makers register their WMI with NHTSA, so year, maker and type decode.

Are RV recalls tracked by VIN?

Yes. Chassis recalls are under the chassis maker; coach recalls (propane, slide-outs, electrical) are filed by the coach builder.
